Kali is by far my favourite goddess!
Raised as a good Catholic girl I was not allowed to express anger or any uncomfortable emotions for that matter. Left to cry as a baby, told not to cry as a child and not to speak back as a teenager, I learned to bottle up sadness which slowly built up into repressed anger. Kali teaches me that expressing my anger, although terrifying, can be purifying. Women have an especially difficult time with being okay expressing their ‘inner Kali’. Society in general ridicules angry women, somehow we hold the image of the ideal woman to be acquiescent, polite, discreet, pleasant and amiable… basically I would add ‘meek’ to that great list! There are situations when Kali’s uncompromising fierceness is absolutely necessary and a saviour.
